Students in Grades 1 and 2 meet once a week with an FOM funded music teacher to sing and learn about different instruments, musical notation, symbols, note value, rhythm, and to make great music. Music affects the growth of a child’s brain academically, emotionally, physically and spiritually; and it trains the brain for higher forms of thinking. Recent studies report that musical training may promote the development and maintenance of a key set of executive brain functions, which enable us to manage our time and attention, organize our thoughts, and regulate our behavior — abilities that are crucial to success in school, as well as later life.
