Art and Theater

Students in Grades 1 and 5 receive art instruction once a week with FOM funded art teacher Ms. Pieter Loring in our dedicated art room, where students experiment and create art using a full spectrum of mediums and methods Several of the projects fold into their academic curriculum. Others are inspired by specific artists, in an exploration of mark making, composition and subject matter. Ms. Pieter has a BA from Lewis and Clark College, a BFA from Art Center College of Design, and has taught at Marquez since 2007.

Mr. Lantos has been teaching 5th grade at Marquez since 1987.  He retired in 2016.  He will be returing to Marquez to work with the 5th Grade students on his plays.  Mr. Lantos wrote all the 5th grade plays (music by Bill Augustine), Miracle  in Philadelphia (about the Constitutional Convention), Hello Louisana (about the Lewis & Clark expedition) and Water & Power (about the first workers strike in Lowell, MA).   His biggest inspiration was Frank Loesser, a great composer/lyricist.  Many of Mr. Lantos; songs are  modeled after his work.   He and his wife, LeeAnn, have two children: Matt, who works at the State Deparment and Jaime, who works at Sports Illustrated.  Mr. Lantos received his B.A. in History from Brown University and his teaching credential from CSULA.
